How to use a Bluetooth and a wired headphone at a time in Windows 10?

Whats and Hows

You can use wired and wireless headphones in Windows at a time without using any additional hardware or an audio-mixer software. Just try the following steps:

  1. First of all, connect your Bluetooth headphones as usual.
  2. Go to the Sound section from the Control Panel or right click on Sounds icon and go to the Sound section as shown below:

3. Go to Recording tab to view the list of recording devices.

4. Locate Stereo Mix, right click and set as Default Device as shown in the image below:

Please note, if you cannot find Stereo Mix in the list, right click anywhere inside the Recording tab and select “Show Disabled Devices” and “Show Disconnected Devices”.

5. Now, right click on Stereo Mix and click on Properties to view the Stereo Mix Properties dialogue box.

6. Go to the Listen tab

7. Check “Listen to this device“.

8. In “Playback through this device” drop down, select your Bluetooth headphones and click on Apply in all dialogue boxes and close them.

9. Plug in your wired headphones and left click on Sounds icon to choose your wired headphones from the list as shown in the below example image:

That’s it! You can now listen to music or watch videos by using both wired and wireless headphones. However, if you want to connect to two Bluetooth headphones, you need to use an audio mixer or a Bluetooth adapter.

  1. So can I play different songs on these two outputs? πŸ™‚ Could you please also provide information on that?

    1. Hello,
thank you for reading. With these settings changes, you will only be able to listen to a single audio output on both the headphones as it is a dual-listening solution. For different audio outputs, you may have to use some software like Virtual Audio Cable which also requires some configuration changes. Hope that helps! Thank you once again.
